The primary purpose of wSCRT is to enhance the accessibility and liquidity of the Secret Network's native token within the Ethereum environment, particularly for decentralized finance (DeFi) applications. It acts as a bridge, enabling users to convert Ethereum-based assets, including ETH and various ERC-20 tokens, into privacy-preserving "Secret Tokens" (SNIP-20 standard) on the Secret Network. The Secret Network itself is a blockchain designed for privacy-preserving smart contracts. Unlike traditional public blockchains, the Secret Network allows for encrypted inputs, outputs, and state within its smart contracts, known as "secret contracts." This provides computational privacy, meaning that sensitive data used in smart contract interactions can remain confidential. Secret Tokens, like wSCRT once bridged to the Secret Network, combine the programmable nature of ERC-20 tokens with privacy features, where only the owners or those with viewing keys can access transaction details. The Secret Ethereum Bridge, launched in December 2020, facilitates the conversion process between Ethereum and the Secret Network. When wSCRT is moved from Ethereum to the Secret Network, it transforms into sSCRT, which is the privacy-preserving form used for private DeFi interactions on Secret.
