Router Protocol is a cross-chain protocol developed to facilitate the bridging of assets and the secure flow of arbitrary messages across different Layer 1 and Layer 2 blockchain networks. The protocol utilizes stablecoins as a medium of exchange for these asset transfers. Its primary goal is to extend the composability of decentralized finance (DeFi) across various blockchains. The native token of the protocol is ROUTE. Holders of ROUTE tokens can participate in the protocol's governance by voting on proposed changes. Cross-chain transactions incur fees, which are distributed among validators and liquidity providers. Users who pay these transaction fees using ROUTE tokens receive a 50% discount. Additionally, the protocol allows users to pay a combined gas and transaction fee in ROUTE tokens. Router Protocol was established in 2020 by Ramani Ramachandran, Shubham Singh, Chandan Choudhury, and Priyeshu Garg. The project has undergone a migration from an old token contract to a new one. The protocol's technological framework includes a Layer-1 blockchain that uses the Tendermint Consensus mechanism, which is known for its security. Key features encompass the ability to convert assets across blockchains, flexible fee payment options, and a modular mesh network designed to enhance scalability. It also incorporates a cross-chain settlement engine to ensure smooth transactions and a proprietary pathfinder algorithm for efficient cross-chain exchanges. Router Protocol provides Software Development Kits (SDKs) to enable developers to build complex cross-chain applications. The protocol also supports cross-chain governance, allowing decisions made on one blockchain to be recognized across others. Cross-chain swap aggregation is another significant application, pooling liquidity from various sources to facilitate efficient asset swaps between different chains. Furthermore, it includes a buyback and burn mechanism, where a portion of transaction fees is used to reduce the token supply. Single-asset liquidity farms are also supported within the protocol.
