Rings scETH (scETH) is a wrapped token created by Rings Protocol that operates on the Sonic blockchain. It is designed to be pegged 1:1 to ETH (Ethereum). Rings Protocol, in collaboration with Veda, Paladin, and Tholgar, introduced scETH as a foundational asset for the Sonic decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem. Users can mint scETH fee-free by depositing ETH-based tokens on either the Ethereum network or the Sonic network. For example, depositing Wrapped Ether (WETH) can mint scETH. When these tokens are minted, the deposited collateral is sent to Veda-operated vaults on Ethereum. These vaults automatically generate yield through established DeFi protocols like Aave. This mechanism allows the original assets to earn yield while enabling the utility of scETH on Sonic, a concept referred to as "native yield." The Veda-operated vaults manage farming strategies and rebalance assets to optimize yield for the deployed collateral. This native yield allows bridged assets to earn returns on their original chain, unlike typical bridging where assets might be locked without earning. Once scETH is minted, users have the option to stake it through Rings on Sonic to receive staked scETH (stkscETH). This staking process deposits the scETH into Veda-operated vaults on Sonic, where it generates additional yield from protocols within the Sonic ecosystem. This particular yield is paid directly to the user. The overall aim of scETH, alongside scUSD, is to introduce a new approach to assets in the DeFi space by offering competitive, curated yields for stakers and fostering deep liquidity for Sonic DeFi.
