PulseChain is a layer-1 blockchain project initiated by Richard Heart, who also founded the HEX cryptocurrency. It was designed as an enhanced version of the Ethereum network, focusing on improving energy efficiency, lowering transaction fees, and maintaining compatibility with Ethereum's ecosystem. The project aims to address some of Ethereum's challenges, such as high fees and network congestion. PulseChain uses a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, which is less energy-intensive compared to Ethereum's original Proof-of-Work system. It also boasts faster block times, aiming for approximately three seconds, and significantly reduced transaction costs. A key feature of PulseChain is its backward compatibility with Ethereum, allowing developers to port Ethereum-based projects to PulseChain with minimal modifications. PulseChain achieved this by taking a snapshot of the entire Ethereum network, effectively replicating it and creating a new ecosystem. This also meant that Ethereum token holders received a free copy of their tokens and NFTs on the PulseChain network as part of a large airdrop. The native token of the PulseChain network is PLS. PLS is essential for all transactions on the network, serving as the gas token for sending, swapping, and interacting with smart contracts. A portion of the transaction fees paid in PLS is burned, contributing to a deflationary mechanism. Users can stake PLS tokens to activate validators and earn rewards for helping to secure the network. PulseChain tokens were primarily distributed through a "sacrifice" phase, where participants donated various cryptocurrencies or fiat money to supported addresses or charities in exchange for PLS tokens. The project also introduced its own decentralized exchange called PulseX, which allows users to swap tokens and NFTs within the Pulse network.
