PlasticHero (PTH) is a Web3 project launched to address the global plastic waste problem. The initiative focuses on promoting recycling and sustainability through the use of blockchain technology. It operates on the Ethereum blockchain, utilizing a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism for efficient and lower-energy transaction processing. The project originated with its whitepaper in March 2021, followed by a testnet launch in June 2021, and the mainnet in September 2021. The native token, PTH, was distributed in October 2021. PlasticHero aims to build a transparent and trustworthy decentralized circular economy. It introduces a "Recycle-to-Earn" (R2E) model, which assigns economic value to plastic recycling activities, thereby encouraging public participation. The process involves individuals depositing plastic into designated recycling kiosks, often utilizing AI-powered robots for collection and sorting, and in return, they earn PTH tokens. A mobile application tracks the amount of plastic recycled and the environmental impact, while also rewarding users with digital tokens. The collected plastic waste undergoes pyrolysis, a chemical recycling method that converts it into valuable raw materials like crude oil, flakes, and pellets. These materials can then be used by industries to produce new products, contributing to a circular economy. The PTH token serves multiple functions within the PlasticHero ecosystem. It facilitates transactions, rewards users for their recycling efforts, and enables participation in project governance decisions. PlasticHero also creates demand for PTH by making internationally certified carbon credits, obtained through recycling operations, purchasable exclusively with PTH tokens. Any PTH collected through this system is permanently burned, aiming to reduce token supply. PlasticHero envisions expanding its ecosystem globally, starting with its initial focus in South Korea and subsequently extending to regions like the Middle East, particularly the UAE.
