KuCoin Token (KCS) is the native cryptocurrency of the KuCoin exchange ecosystem. It was launched in 2017 initially as an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain, and later migrated to the KuCoin Community Chain (KCC) in 2021. KCS serves as the foundational asset that powers various services and incentives within the KuCoin environment. The primary purpose of KCS is to act as a utility token within the KuCoin ecosystem. Holders of KCS can receive trading fee discounts on the KuCoin exchange, with the discount level often increasing with the amount of KCS held. KCS also allows users to participate in exclusive platform events, such as token sales. Additionally, holding KCS can grant users higher VIP levels, offering more benefits and greater fee reductions. Beyond the centralized exchange, KCS is integral to the KuCoin Community Chain (KCC). KCC is an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible layer-1 blockchain where KCS is used to pay for transaction fees, also known as gas fees. KCC aims to provide a fast, low-cost, and secure blockchain experience for decentralized applications. KCS operates with a deflationary mechanism. The total supply of KCS was initially set at 200 million tokens, with a plan to reduce it to 100 million tokens through a buyback and burn scheme. KuCoin commits a portion of its profits to repurchase and permanently remove KCS from circulation. Looking ahead, KCS is intended to evolve into a governance token for the KuCoin community, allowing holders to participate in community-led decisions for its decentralized ecosystem.
